Record breaker! Yesterday was the WETTEST day of 2021
Thought October was rainy? Think again.

It looks like autumn’s adamant about making up for this year’s intense drought...

Thanks to the intense thunderstorms that Malta witnessed yesterday, the 25th November can now be marked as the wettest day of 2021.

In just 24 hours, a whopping 92.7mm of rain fell over the Maltese islands.

To put that into perspective, the expected average amount of total rainfall for November is between 80 to 100mm. This means that we saw an entire month’s worth of rain come down on us in a couple of hours!

The storm first hit the islands late on Wednesday, although this persisted all night and went on all throughout the next morning.

Out of all of Malta and Gozo’s towns and villages, Bugibba was hit the worst, recording an insane 119.6mm of rainfall up until 6pm.

Yesterday's downpour even exceeded October's dreaded storm!

And it looks like the whacky weather won’t stop there, as we’ve got a wet and windy weekend ahead of us...

According to the Malta International Airport, we should be expecting thundery showers to hit the islands on Saturday. Sunday’s set to bring along some chilly winds and temperatures are set to drop to a whopping 12°C the day after.

Could this be another effect of climate change?
