Thought last October was a particularly rainy month?

Well, as it turns out, it yielded just over three times the expected rainfall at this time of year – yes three times.

A total of 246.2mm of rain was reported to have fallen over the Maltese islands last month, a much- needed change after 12 consecutive drier-than-average months.

Last October was so wet that it actually went down on the Malta International Airport Meteorological Office’s records at the third wettest October since 1922!

On the wettest day of the month, that is, 25th October, a whopping 51.6mm of rainfall were measured – that’s more than a fifth of the month’s entire recorded rainfall.

More than half of October’s total rainfall descended during the last week of the month as allow-pressure area developed over South-East Malta.

A total of eight thunderstorms were recorded during said month – five of which were reported in its first 13 days.

The stormiest October in recent years was in 2018, when 16 thunderstorms rattled the islands, however the stormiest October in the Meteorological Office’s records took place way back in 1951.

We wonder what November’s got in store for us…
