A vintage photo recently shared on Instagram is giving some serious nostalgia vibes, showing Sliema’s beloved seaside area as it looked back in the 1960s. One thing’s for sure – it seems to have been as popular back then as it is today, as the swimmers and sunbathers dot the entire stretch of the beach.
In the shot, you can spot familiar features of the coastline leading up to Balluta, the lack of buildings and kiosks which have sprouted up on the beach itself over the decades is evident. It’s a powerful reminder of how much Malta has evolved – and how certain spots, like Sliema, have remained close to our hearts.
For many, the image brings back memories of carefree summer days, picnics by the sea, and long swims under the sun, when the sun’s rays were a little more bearable! Nowadays it’s not recommended to be exposed to the sun between 11 AM and 4 PM during summertime, when the UV index skyrockets to a whopping 11 in the peak of summer.
Do you have any memories of Exiles in its earlier days?
