The Malta Railway Foundation opened the Floriana lines to the public this weekend and a brave adventurer’s first underground images are as spooky as expected!

Several were those who took up the opportunity and made their way downwards into the tunnels for a talk and tour of the underground maze.

Expat Brit Steve Bissell, a.k.a. Englishman in Malta, was one of those who ventured deep into the core of Floriana to explore the tunnels first hand, and share his experience with his online following.

Although the Maltese railway stopped its operations in the early 20th century, the structure was repurposed multiple times, most notably as an air-raid shelter during WWII.
