President of Malta ends term with one final initiative launch (& it's a good one!)
This Thursday, Malta’s presidency will be handed over to Dr George Vella, and with just three days left until the end of her term, we decided to pay homage to Her Excellency Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca. Here are some of the fantastic things she’s achieved over the past five years.
1. President’s Eco-Park
Freshly launched (just today!), the Eco-Park is a sustainable park targeted at children aged between two and ten, located within The President’s Kitchen Garden.
2. National Cancer Platform Association
Launched in 2015, this association brings together all the NGOs working in the cancer field to collaborate to ensure a holistic, co-ordinated and sustainable service for all cancer patients and their families.
3. She’s the youngest president of Malta
At 55 years of age, she’s the youngest president to have served in office, as well as the second woman to occupy the position.
4. She founded the President’s Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society
The foundation aims to create a safe space for dialogue on social wellbeing, bridging popular wisdom with academic research.
5. The Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation
The President transformed the national charity into a foundation with the aim of providing financial, material and professional support to individuals, families, communities and voluntary organisations.
6. The President’s Trust
Founded in 2015, it encourages vulnerable young people experiencing difficulties in life to improve their lives through education and training.
7. Noffri.com
Launched in 2015, Noffri.com is an initiative that encourages volunteering with the aim to support NGOs in their day-to-day operations.
8. Green Paper
Green Paper is a Framework for Poverty Reduction and Social Inclusion which addresses various social situations, among which is a child supplement aimed at 22,000 children at risk of poverty.
