Fingers crossed that the turtle is found and rescued soon!

Updated: The turtle was thankfully spotted and collected. She was named Lucky and is now recovering at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Malta.

While in Gozo, an injured turtle was spotted at Xwejni Bay.

The poor creature had difficulty swimming and a worrying number of algal growths were seen on its flippers and carapace.

Wildlife Rescue Team Malta were soon called onto the scene and with the help of the Bubbles Dive Centre in Marsalforn they tried to catch it.

Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful and will be trying again until they find it.

In the meantime, they have issued an appeal to the public to keep an eye out for this turtle if they’re near Xwejni Bay or any of the neighbouring beaches.

If you do spot it, you should call the Wildlife Rescue Team on 99999505 and keep your eyes on the turtle until they arrive.
