Pierre’s back! Malta’s favourite nature explorer takes us through Wied l-Isperanza in Mosta
Pierre's latest adventure takes us through one of Malta's most legendary valleys.
He’s back at it again! Malta’s beloved nature explorer Pierre has released another beautiful vlog, this time taking viewers on a walk through one of the island’s most peaceful spots: Wied il-Isperanza, or The Valley of Hope, in Mosta.
Pierre kicks off his adventure at the charming Wied il-Qliegħa Chapel, also known as San Pawl tal-Qliegħa Chapel, a small historic church built in the late 1600s. Found just off Triq San Pawl tal-Qliegħa (leading to and from Mosta), this place marks the start of a picturesque route leading deep into the valley.
As Pierre makes his way along the winding paths, he highlights the valley’s many natural and historic treasures, from old stone bridges and rainwater channels, to fascinating remnants of the island’s past. Among his discoveries is an ancient tomb, complete with low ceilings and small openings to burial chambers once used by Malta’s ancestors. He even finds a skull, which he determines to likely be an animal’s!
But the real highlight of the trek comes when Pierre reaches the legendary cave of Wied il-Isperanza. According to local lore, a young girl once hid here while being chased by invading Turks. In a miraculous twist, a spider is said to have spun a web across the cave’s entrance, tricking her pursuers into thinking no one was inside, ultimately saving her life.
Pierre ends his journey at the serene Kappella tal-Isperanza (Chapel of Our Lady of Hope), built between 1757 and 1760 – a fitting final stop for a valley that’s as full of faith as it is of beauty.
Thank you, Pierre, for another breathtaking journey!
