A tiny survivor! Xrobb L-Għaġin Nature Park & Wildlife Rehab Centre rescues baby hedgehog Elsa
Meet Elsa, the tiniest little survivor! This baby hedgehog was recently found cold, alone, and weighing just 88.75g, which is far too young to survive without her mother. Luckily, a kind couple, Amy and David, spotted her on the road and did exactly the right thing: keeping her warm and safe until a volunteer from the Xrobb L-Għaġin Nature Park and Wildlife Rehab Centre arrived.
Once on site, the volunteer searched the area for Elsa’s mother, nest, or any siblings, but sadly, none were found.
Elsa is now in the loving care of one of the centre’s dedicated home carers, where she’s being bottle-fed with a special hedgehog formula – as hedgehogs cannot have cow’s milk – until she’s strong enough to move to the rehabilitation centre.
And there’s already great news: in just four days, Elsa has gained almost 20 grams! She’s getting stronger every day, and the team promises to keep sharing updates as she grows into a healthy, happy hedgehog ready for release back into the wild.
