Not all rescue stories are what they first seem! When the Malta Ranger Unit received a call about a shrew spotted in Qormi, they went to investigate. But after a quick check and confirmation from Wildlife Rescue Team Malta, it turned out to be something else entirely… a baby rat!
Now we all know that rats aren’t exactly Malta’s most loved animals, especially since they can pose a serious threat to species like the beloved Shearwater and its chicks, as well as being feared back since the days of the plague for carrying disease. But that didn’t stop the Rangers from stepping in to help.
The tiny rat, now affectionately named Ranger, will be examined by a vet before being provided with a loving home.
Despite being a surprising guest, little Ranger managed to put a smile on the Rangers’ faces when they needed it most, after a day of hard work, while providing a reminder that every creature deserves a chance.
