Malta's Summer Carnival CANCELLED after float builder loses his life in tragic accident
Malta’s Summer Carnival, which was meant to be held this weekend, was cancelled yesterday following news of the death of a carnival volunteer.
The enthusiast, Jean-Paul Bonett who was regarding as “one of the best” carnival artists, was electrocuted while working on one of the floats. Reportedly, an ambulance was called to Xatt il-Mollijiet in Marsa, but he had died on the spot.

After news of the 45-year-old’s death, the culture ministry announced that the carnival has been cancelled. Tributes to Jean-Paul started flowing in on Facebook. “Very sadly missed by your friend and ex-colleague,” said one Facebook user. “I’m lost for words. Rest in peace Jean-Paul Bonett,” said another.

“He was one of the best artists in the carnival sector and for a long time, leader of one of the main carnival companies,” the culture ministry said in a statement expressing sorrow at the enthusiast’s tragic loss. “All activities planned for this weekend will not be held.”
