No pun intended.
Have you seen these new branded cars on the road lately? You’re not going mad – they’re part of the first ride-pooling service that just launched on the Maltese Islands. This new service is much more than a simple taxi app: Cool, as it’s called, encourages people to share rides by pooling passengers headed in the same direction, saving money (and the environment) in the process! #YAS!

The app deets
The intelligent system matches passengers travelling in the same direction and finds the best route for their trip within a travel zone. Travelling anywhere within this zone will incur a charge of just €4.95 per ride. Second passengers in the same booking will ride for €2.48, 50 per cent of the standard price.
What areas does Cool cover?
For now, the vehicles will be operating within a fixed zone covering the following areas: Attard, Balzan, Birguma, Birkirkara, Blata l-Bajda, Floriana, Gharghur, Gwardamangia, Gzira, Hamrun, Ibragg, Iklin, Imriehel, Kappara, Lija, Madliena, Marsa, Msida, Swatar, Swieqi, Paceville, Pembroke, Pieta, Qormi, San Gwann, Sliema, St Julian’s, St Venera, Ta’ Xbiex, and Valletta.
Moving towards a sustainable mobility
In a statement, Geoffrey Debono, CEO of Debono Group, who are taking care of the new project, said their aim is to promote a more sustainable commuting system. “Cool is our latest step in our endeavour to build a sustainable mobility eco system in Malta. Our aim is to make mobility on the island the most effective and efficient yet simplest in the world,” he says. “Cool ensures that the quickest routes are calculated dynamically in real-time, allowing for quick and efficient shared trips without lengthy detours,” he assures.
