The next 10 days are critical in determining a tentative timeline for when COVID-19 measures could start being lifted, according to a Malta Today article.
Both Health Minister Chris Fearne and Superintendent of Public Health Prof. Charmaine Gauci have been cautious about commenting on Malta's exit strategy and have voiced predictions of a peak in cases between mid-to-end April.
Earlier today, Minister Fearne revealed that although restrictions could start being lifted in the coming days, he warned that life will not return to normality before a vaccine is found. This was published in a recent Times Of Malta article. There are currently several vaccines at various stages of production, the most advanced of which moves into the human testing phase tomorrow.
Several European countries, including Italy, have slowly started easing their restrictions this week but there is no textbook approach for all countries to follow and Malta must find its own path forward.
The amount of new cases in Malta has been relatively low as of late, however fear of undetected cases has been pushed forward after a substantial number of people skipped their COVID-19 testing appointment over the weekend.
