Gnejna Bay has just welcomed 79 new life stories...all thanks to the successful hatching of a full turtle nest!
ERA (Environment & Resources Authority) proudly announced that the Gnejna nest has completely hatched, with all 79 turtle hatchlings making their way safely to the sea.
Following a few busy nights of observation, ERA officials, together with dedicated volunteers from Nature Trust Malta, carried out a nest excavation to ensure no turtles were left behind and to collect vital conservation data.
This nest marks the first fully hatched site of the season, and with five more nests still to go, hopes are high for more good news in the coming weeks. Each successful hatching is a step forward in safeguarding the future of loggerhead turtles in Maltese waters.
The incredible teamwork between environmental officers, marine biologists, and passionate volunteers has once again shown the power of community-driven conservation.
As turtle season continues, the public is encouraged to stay informed and support local efforts to protect these fascinating creatures. Whether by respecting beach guidelines or simply spreading awareness, every small action helps.
Let’s go, little babies!
