Big win for local sport! Malta set to host 2027 Commonwealth Youth Games

Malta is set to make history as it prepares to host the 2027 Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG); a major international sporting event that will welcome over 1,100 young athletes from across the Commonwealth.

The announcement was made in a special ceremony held locally, with prominent figures including Commonwealth Sport Malta President Julian Pace Bonello, Commonwealth Sport President Dr Donald Rukare and Minister for Education and Sport Clifton Grima in attendance.

This 8th edition of the CYG will take place across Malta and Gozo, featuring eight sports: Athletics and Para Athletics, Swimming and Para Swimming, Netball, Squash, Triathlon, Weightlifting, and for the first time ever at CYG, Sailing and Water Polo.

Malta already boasts CYG success stories like silver medallist Ryan Bugeja and triathlete Kai Azzopardi, who both welcomed the Games’ return.

Alongside the sporting events, Malta 2027 will also showcase a vibrant cultural programme focused on sustainability, heritage, and youth empowerment, further elevating the islands’ status on the international sports map.
