Making Malta proud! Joelle Cortis and Gabriel Farrugia set new 5k national records in Monaco

Maltese athletes, Joelle Cortis and Gabriel Farrugia have just a managed two new national records on the five-kilometer distance while running alongside a highly competitive field in Monaco.

During the World Athletics-approved MonacoRun, Joelle ran a time of 17:25 which, pending verification by Athletics Malta, means she achieved the women’s national record over the five-kilometer distance.

The youngster, Gabriel Farrugia (Evolve AC) ran a time of 15:27 bettering his own record by a staggering 21 seconds.

He even managed to finish 40th overall and third in the Under 20 category.

Well done to both Joelle and Gabriel!
