Mark your calendars for a truly inspiring event!

This Saturday 5th July 2025, Special Olympics Malta will host the first-ever edition of the Special Olympics Malta National Beach Games, as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations. The event will take place at Pretty Bay, Birżebbuġa, between 9am and 2pm.

This new national celebration of inclusion through sport will feature a programme of accessible and inclusive activities, including beach soccer, swimming, paddleboarding, basketball, and the traditional game of ‘Bocce’ (or ‘Boċċi’ in Maltese) – all set against the seaside backdrop of Pretty Bay.

Thanks to a new collaboration with Yachting Malta, the Birżebbuġa Sailing Club, and the Malta Sailing Federation, athletes will also have the chance to experience sailing for the very first time – an exciting addition to the line-up and a major step forward in expanding opportunities for people with disabilities in sport.

Over the past few years, Malta has made strong strides in accessibility and inclusion, with ongoing investment by the Ministry for Inclusion in programmes such as the Motor Activity Training Programme (MATP) and in improving sports facilities across the islands. These efforts are ensuring that athletes with disabilities have equal access to dignified participation in sport at every level.

Special Olympics Malta supports over 2,500 athletes across a range of sporting disciplines. The organisation is inviting the Maltese and Gozitan public to attend the event and show their support for this milestone celebration – and for the incredible athletes who represent the true spirit of perseverance, inclusion, and sportsmanship.

Will you be there to show your support?
