Local councillor raises over €2,000 to build school in Ethiopia in memory of late cousin
So far, Steve Zammit Lupi has raised €2,216.
Last year, the whole country was shocked to hear of 15-year-old Rebecca Zammit Lupi’s untimely passing after a long battle with cancer.
It was no secret that Rebecca, better known as Becs, was very passionate about giving a voice to those that didn’t have one – so much so that she wished for a school to be built for Ethiopian children who didn’t have access to education.
That’s why, a year after her passing, Becs’ cousin, independent Haz-Zebbug local councillor Steve Zammit Lupi, decided to launch a fundraiser to make this dream a reality.
By birdwatching on New Year’s Day, Steve not only managed to spot 45 different bird species, but he also raised a whopping €2,216 for this cause.
“Thanks all for your warm generosity”, Steve gratefully said on Facebook.
“To all those who supported Steve today and donated funds for the school project in my daughter's memory, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I'm deeply moved by what you've all done”, Bec’s father, Darrin Zammit Lupi added.
The fundraiser is still open and you can donate here.
Well done, Steve!
