The project proposed is situated in ODZ land.
Local environmental activist, Cami Appelgren appeals against a development proposal at the beautiful site of Fomm ir-Rih in Mgarr, encouraging locals to do the same.
“Another 63 objection emails filed yesterday! And it looks like they’ve realized that this site is special,” she quips. “I hope they have time for an on site inspection since they’ve got some objection filing to do. If you haven’t objected - DO IT!"
The Fomm ir-Rih proposal
Reportedly, the application proposal a massive agritourism project in an outside development zone (ODZ). The project would include a reception and luggage area, 16 suites, a dining area, a kitchen, a gallery space and a 50 square-metre pool.
The proposal states that it will, “Consolidate and restore existing pre-1968/1978 structures, including the demolition of modern accretions; and construct new single-storey structures and pool at hamlet at Fomm ir-Rih to convert into a Class 3A Agri-Tourism accommodation and ancillary facilities.”
This means proposed structures will be single storey, just like the current existing structures that were built before 1968. Current buildings in the area are reportedly either being used as agricultural stores or are in a dilapidated state and not in use at present.
