You go, girl! Maltese weightlifter Yazmin Zammit Stevens has just announced that she’ll be heading to Tokyo next month to represent Malta in the Olympics. Queen!
“I will be part of the Olympic team that will be going to Tokyo next month,” she said in an emotional announcement on Instagram stories. “I can’t put into words what this feels like and what this means to me and my country,” she shared, expressing her excitement.
Family member Cliff Zammit Stevens shared his absolute joy at the announcement. “This little girl’s dream is now a reality! Our @yazmin.stevens is an Olympian and will be the first Maltese woman to compete in a final at the Olympics! Words cannot describe the sheer joy and pride we have for you! You have been and always will be my inspiration! I am always in awe of your kindness and your hard work! I love you and we are all here for you - Marcy is definitely the proudest!”
Local fitness community Bulletproof Culture, also shared the news on socials, confirming that Yaz has been working towards this goal for the past five years. The weightlifter will be representing Malta and competing on 27th July in the 64kg category.
