There’s a new sanctuary for cats and we couldn’t be any happier! This is located in Ghammieri, which is situated between Qormi and Luqa.

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo, together with the Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights Alicia Bugeja Said inaugurated a new sanctuary for abandoned cats in the Ghammieri area.

In a news conference, the Director for Animal Protection Patricia Azzopardi explained that this sanctuary has 150 cats. Most of them are collected by Animal Welfare Department officers and after being abandoned, injured, or rescued from the streets. In this sanctuary, there will be a special area for the isolation of sick cats and another place where they will be cared for by veterinarians.

In the coming days, all the cats will be transferred from the old area after being inspected by the Directorate vets who give them the green light to mix with the other cats in the new sanctuary.

Will you be paying these lovely cats a visit?
