If Beauty and the Beast is one of your all-time favourite Disney movies, you prefer sticking your nose in a book rather than a shot glass or you're just really into conservation, then this prospect will surely turn your day around.

The Archdiocese of Malta is currently recruiting volunteers to help in a book cleaning venture at its archives. Amongst the many collections it houses, the archive hosts census records between the 16th and 19th century as well as the Atti Civili, a series of 196 volumes dating back to 1614 which contains decrees, pious foundations, ecclesiastical appointments and resignations, authorizations and many more.

In exchange for their time, which can be as little as one hour a week, volunteers will be tutored on how to handle ancient books, inspect them for damages, brush off dust using specialized equipment to prevent further damage and returning them to their shelves.

If this prospect excites you, you can apply by contacting book conservator David Plummer via email on [email protected]

When she’s not having a quarter-life crisis, Caroline is either drawing in a café, frittering her salary on sushi or swearing at traffic in full-on Gozitan. There is also the occasional daytime drink somewhere in the equation. Or two. A creative must be allowed at least one vice.
