Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Businesses Silvio Schembri today revealed more details about how the infamous €100 vouchers - announced to the public on Monday as a means to boost domestic tourism - can be spent.

Speaking in a press conference earlier this morning, the Economy Minister revealed that the five €20 vouchers will be colour-coded for specific use: "Four vouchers worth 80 will have a particular colour, and another voucher will have a different colour," he said.

Explaining the reason behind this, Minister Schembri said: "They are colour-coded because the first four can be used in any establishment licensed by the MTA, so hotels, farmhouses, guesthouses, restaurants, bars…those can be used there."

As for the remaining voucher, it: "... can be utilised in any other shop that was closed down through the legal notice, like hair and nail salons, clothes shops and tattoo parlours," he continued.

Elaborating further, Minister Schembri explained that MTA-licensed businesses would be able to claim refunds directly from the MTA while businesses recipient of the fifth voucher can do so through MIMPOL: "There will be a specially-dedicated portal for these shops so the system can operate as smoothly as possible," he explained.
