History lovers! Discover Malta’s hidden past with exclusive archaeology tours in Valletta
As part of this year’s European Archaeology Days, Heritage Malta is inviting the public to explore the fascinating world of archaeology through a series of exclusive curatorial tours at the National Museum of Archaeology on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th June.
Hosted within the magnificent Auberge de Provence, the event offers visitors a rare opportunity to discover some of Malta’s most treasured archaeological collections through expert-led experiences.
Each guided tour begins with an introduction to the museum’s main exhibition, offering insight into Malta’s prehistoric past and the significance of its archaeological heritage. A special highlight of the tour is the detailed presentation of the famous Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum skulls, which form part of the museum’s permanent display and continue to intrigue historians and visitors alike.
Participants will also gain exclusive access to selected artefacts from the museum’s Reserve Collection, many of which are not normally on public display. These include ancient Greek vases, inscriptions, and stelae that shed light on the diverse civilisations that shaped the Maltese islands over the centuries.
Two tours will take place daily, with sessions offered in both Maltese and English. Tickets are priced at €15 for the general public and €10 for Heritage Malta members, and are available from Heritage Malta as well as all Heritage Malta museums and sites.
The tours form part of a wider programme designed to make archaeology engaging, interactive, and accessible for all ages, creating a memorable cultural experience for both adults and children.
