Open weekend! Step inside Xlendi Tower and take a virtual dive into Gozo's ancient underwater world
It’s all happening on the 15th and 16th August!

History and technology will come together this August as the Munxar Local Council, in collaboration with Heritage Malta's Underwater Cultural Heritage Unit, hosts a special open weekend at the historic Xlendi Tower.

Taking place on 15th and 16th August, the event invites visitors to explore one of Gozo's most iconic coastal landmarks while discovering the fascinating archaeological treasures hidden beneath the sea. After taking in the panoramic views overlooking Xlendi Bay, guests can experience an immersive Virtual Reality dive into the Xlendi Underwater Archaeological Park and the renowned Phoenician Shipwreck.

Inside the tower, visitors will also find a display of underwater artefacts that shed light on centuries of maritime history preserved beneath Gozo's crystal-clear waters.

The seabed off Ras il-Wardija is home to the remains of a remarkable Phoenician shipwreck dating back to the 7th century BC, offering valuable insight into ancient seafaring and trade in the Mediterranean.

Just below Xlendi Tower lies another unique attraction - the world's first deep-water underwater archaeological park, which opened to divers in 2023 with the support of the Malta Airport Foundation.

The Xlendi Tower will be open from 9:00am to 12:00pm and 1:30pm to 4:00pm on both days.

Admission is free, and no pre-booking is required, making it an ideal opportunity for families, history enthusiasts and anyone curious to explore Gozo's rich cultural and underwater heritage.
