This year’s hike will cover a total of 17km.
The annual walk between the night of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday in aid of Puttinu Cares has become an annual Easter tradition in Malta, and it's back again - for its 20th edition!
This is a long walk from the north to the south of Malta, and all the donations of participants go towards the cost of accommodation for Maltese patients receiving specialised medical treatment in the UK.
Here’s everything you need to know before embarking on this adventure.
Those who wish to attend such a hike have to be in the Parish Church Square in Mellieha before midnight between the night of the 17th and 18th April.
From here, the group will hike to Xemxija, pass through Saint Paul’s Bay, then through the Mosta Square, before heading to Hal-Lija and then the Birkirkara and Msida Valley. Here they’ll start to make their way to the Pieta Harbour, where they will finish the hike at the granaries in Floriana.
This means that they will be covering a total distance of 17 kilometres that will roughly take around four to five hours.
All those who wish to attend must book online, and make a donation of any sum that will directly go to Puttinu Cares.
Free transport will be provided for all those that need a lift from Floriana to Mellieha. Transport will also be organised after the walk from Floriana to get people back to Mellieha. It's important to note that the transport will only serve these two locations, so it's advisable to leave your mode of transport in one of these locations. An alternative would be getting a taxi home, or - why not - getting some well-earned pastizzi to snack on while you wait for the first morning bus!
