Heat alert! Malta swelters under yellow warning with 39°C real feel expected today
Malta is set for another week of classic summer weather, with sunshine dominating the forecast and temperatures remaining well above average. The hottest day will be today, Tuesday, when the temperature is expected to climb to 34°C, but it is the real feel temperature of a scorching 39°C that will make conditions particularly uncomfortable, especially during the afternoon.
The combination of strong sunshine, light winds and high humidity will make it feel significantly hotter than the actual air temperature.
Anyone spending extended periods outdoors should take extra precautions, including staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous activity during the hottest hours of the day, and seeking shade whenever possible. The UV Index will also reach an extreme level of 10, meaning unprotected skin can burn within minutes.
The Malta Meteorological Office has issued a Yellow Weather Warning, advising the public that daily maximum temperatures of between 33°C and 35°C are expected until at least Wednesday, 1st July.
Relief from the oppressive heat will be limited. Wednesday will remain mainly sunny with highs of 32°C, before temperatures ease slightly to around 30°C to 31°C on Thursday and Friday. While these values are marginally lower, conditions will still feel hot under prolonged sunshine.
One notable change during the second half of the week will be the strengthening wind. From Wednesday evening onwards, a west-northwesterly Force 5 to 6 wind is expected to develop, persisting through to Friday. The fresh breeze will bring rougher seas, with sea conditions becoming moderate to rough, particularly along exposed north and west-facing coastlines.
Looking ahead to the weekend, the stronger winds will gradually ease, allowing calmer seas to return. Temperatures will edge back up to 32°C on Saturday and Sunday under mainly sunny skies, providing ideal conditions for beachgoers!
Today's 39°C real feel is going to be spicy!
