Gozo town inaugurates Malta’s first eco-fountain in the hopes of a plastic free future!
A win for Maltese environment!

This morning, the San Lawrenz Local Council in Gozo inaugurated an ecological water fountain in the village’s main square, and it’s the best news we’re heard all day! With this initiative, the local council is contributing to our country’s efforts to combat the harm caused by the use of plastic, especially single-use plastic.

This fountain, as described by San Lawrenz mayor Noel Formosa, will provide safe drinking water to the town’s residents and any visitors, who will be able to fill up their reusable bottles from the spring.  In the process, this fountain, which is the first of its kind on our islands, is also eliminating the need to resort to single-use plastic bottles for water consumption! #Savingtheturtles

The inauguration was attended by Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana who praised the San Lawrenz Local Council for its ecological awareness, referring not only to this particular initiative but to various others undertaken by the council and which have served as pilot projects carried out later by other villages too.

This initiative is one step in the right direction for the town, which hopes to eventually become totally plastic free. Here’s hoping similar initiatives are implemented nationwide!

Nice work San Lawrenz!
