Mosta, a town famous for its iconic Rotunda Church - boasting one of the largest domes in the world - has long been a major attraction for tourists. But beyond the grandeur of its most famous landmark, how much do you really know about this charming locality? This March, locals and visitors alike will have the perfect opportunity to dive deeper into the fascinating history of Mosta during the ‘Mosta Open Weekend’, set for the last weekend of the month.

With the theme ‘Vetrina tal-Lokalita’ (meaning ‘a display cabinet of the locality’), this special event celebrates the rich cultural and historical heritage of Mosta in a variety of engaging ways.

Here's what to expect:

  • Theatrical Performance at the Basilica of Mosta
One of the highlights of the weekend will be a unique theatrical performance by Jeremy Grech, titled 'Diary of War: The Miracle of Mosta'. This touching performance, accompanied by a four-piece band, will be staged at the Mosta Basilica. On Sunday March 30th, the performance will take place in English from 2pm onwards, followed by the Maltese version on Monday March 31st (a public holiday!) from 10am. A fascinating portrayal of the town’s World War II history, the performance is not to be missed!

  • Guided Tours of the Basilica and WWII Air-Raid Shelter
The Mosta Basilica, with its stunning dome, is a must-see for any visitor. During the weekend, guests can enjoy guided tours of the Basilica as well as the historical Second World War Air-Raid Shelter, providing a deeper look into the town’s past.

  • Explore Mosta on Foot or by Open Bus
Whether by open bus or on foot, explore the many hidden gems Mosta has to offer. Visit local band clubs, community associations, the historic Marquis Mallia Tabone Farmhouse, Mosta’s Bride Garden, the Victoria Lines, the Greek Theatre, and the Heart of Jesus Oratory, among other sites. There’s plenty to see and learn about this historic town!

  • Family Fun at Mosta Square
The weekend isn’t just for history lovers - there’s something for the little ones too. In Mosta Square, families can enjoy a dedicated area for children, with activities organised by local associations.

The Mosta Open Weekend is a collaborative effort between the Mosta Rotunda Foundation, Mosta Local Council, the Northern Region, the Art Council Malta, and the Malta Business Registry, with the participation of several local organisations.

To make getting around even easier, a park and ride service will be available from the Mosta Bride Garden and Lily of the Valley Secondary School. Entrance to the event is free, and you can reserve a place via this form.

Don’t miss the chance to experience Mosta’s rich cultural tapestry and enjoy an unforgettable weekend in the heart of Malta!
