On the eve of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and by popular request, comes a repeat performance of the Cantata 'Vita Beatae Mariae Virgins' (The Life of the Blessed Virgin Mary) by Alexander Vella Gregory.
The work was commissioned by the Foundation specifically for the inauguration of the Oratory of the Onorati in January 2023 and takes the magnificent cycle of 7 paintings of the life of the Virgin Mary by Stefani and Alessio Erardi as its starting point. This 17th-century cycle narrates the life of the Virgin Mary from the Immaculate Conception all through the Assumption that forms the titular altarpiece of the Oratory.Written for three sopranos and positivo organ, the cantata takes the shape of seven antiphons taken from solemn vespers of each of the seven Marian feasts represented in each painting. Entrance is free but donations are welcome!
