The Malta International Arts Festival presents the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra for an expansive evening of orchestral music. Resident conductor Michael Laus takes on a dual role for the performance, leading the ensemble from the podium and performing as the featured piano soloist for Alfred Schnittke’s intense Concerto for Piano and String Orchestra. The diverse program explores a rich kaleidoscope of musical styles, shifting from fragile lyricism to avant-garde dissonance.
The repertoire features celebrated mid-century masterworks alongside contemporary creations. Audiences will experience Igor Stravinsky’s neoclassical Concerto in D and Béla Bartók’s folk-inspired Divertimento for Strings, both originally commissioned by Paul Sacher. The performance also showcases the minimalist rhythmic momentum of Wojciech Kilar’s Orawa and an abridged version of Albert Garzia’s 2024 work Emboldening, delivering a powerful showcase of emotional depth and instrumental virtuosity.https://www.ticketline.com.mt/bookings/SelectSection.aspx?ShowId=3100&LocationId=842
