Elevating tradition! Zabbar’s ‘palji’ for Our Lady of Graces break two national records

Ahead of next month’s Zabbar feast, Malta Records has announced that local resident Angelo Magro has crafted a record-breaking 'palju' for the Feast of Our Lady of Graces, measuring an impressive 31.3 meters in length and 11.53 meters in width.

The ‘palju’ is a flag-type decoration used to adorn the streets in the village feasts, usually depicting images of the village saint. This national record was previously held by a ‘palju’ of 29.35m in length and 10m in width, set on 29th June last year in Gharb, Gozo.

Another record was broken in the village of Zabbar this week, in which the largest amount of ‘palji’ of the same size were erected for the longest distance in one street, totalling an impressive 105, each measuring a length of 5m and width of 1.58m. These ‘palji’ were spread across a distance of 810m along Sanctuary Street in Zabbar.

Each of these ‘palji’ has been decorated with different events related to Our Lady of Graces, so someone walking along the street can appreciate the artists’ work on this traditional element of the Maltese festa.

Have you spotted the ‘palji’ decorating Zabbar’s streets?
