Do you remember Valletta's The Blue Store? Quaint shop used to serve British military men
VE day inspired one man to sift through an old family photo album

Yesterday's 75th VE day prompted a local man to look into an old family album, unearthing a piece of Maltese history in the process.

Sharing a photo of his uncle at his father's Valletta shop, Nicky Kelsall said: "VE Day inspired me to look at some old photos and I came across this one of my uncle in my grandad's shop 'The Blue Store' in Valletta Market, taken Feb 1945," he wrote in the caption.

Providing some background, Nicky added: "I think it mainly served British military personnel and my uncle (aged about 16) was frequently left in charge as my grandad didn't speak English and was also engaged in ' filling in the holes' as he put it, in one of Malta's runways so that the aircraft could take off and land, which was practically a full time job!" he wrote.

The Blue Store was one of countless other quaint little Valletta stores that closed down over the years to be replaced by more modern establishments.

Do you remember this shop in operation?

When she’s not having a quarter-life crisis, Caroline is either drawing in a café, frittering her salary on sushi or swearing at traffic in full-on Gozitan. There is also the occasional daytime drink somewhere in the equation. Or two. A creative must be allowed at least one vice.
