Nas Daily Nuseir Yassin

Nas Daily came to Malta - twice!

For the uninitiated, Nas - Nuseir Yassin - is an Israeli-Palestinian Harvard graduate and software engineer who quit his cushy job to travel the world. Little did he know that he would become one of the greatest influencers on Facebook.

Yassin adopted the moniker ‘Nas’ which is Arabic for 'people'. He set up a Facebook page and committed to making a video every day for 1,000 days. Hence, Nas Daily. His daily one-minute videos documents his travels, expresses his thoughts on various topics and tells people stories.

How did he get 12 million Facebook followers? Nas told Business Insider, "I make videos about people's stories in a way that is human.” And why one minute? “We live very busy lives, but everyone has a spare minute."

Nas travelled to lesser known countries and absolutely loved the Maltese islands. He even returned to film his very last video here in Malta. That, plus sixteen more, out of a staggering 1,000, were made in Malta. We’ve collected them all here (but you can also take a look at all his other videos on the Nas Daily website).

So now take a few minutes and watch Nas’s take on Malta. Each video caption is the original he posted on the Nas Daily Facebook page

724: The most surprising country

"OH MY MALTA! We have just arrived to what I thought would be a tiny dot on the map called Malta...only to realise this place is literally a world of its own! Its own language, culture, people, feel, food, vibe, everything! I'll be here for the next week, come say hi...we'll probably bump into each other. This island is small! Thank you to everyone who showed up to the meetup. You're already making Malta feel like home!"

725: Can you speak this language?

"Can you speak this language?!! This doesn't happen often...if at all. I didn't know anything about Malta before arriving…but the minute I heard the local Maltese language...I was like: 'Hold on a second, I understand that, that, and that!' Turns out Maltese is very similar to Arabic and we can speak sentences to each other in the two different languages. That, not only made me feel at home instantly, but made me realise how better our interactions were, and how better the world could be if language was no longer a barrier."

726: Us vs Immigrants

"Watch this video more than once. It's for every immigrant and non-immigrant. But there are no non-immigrants. So this video is for everyone."

728: He has an island

"For 66 years, this guy has lived on an incredible Maltese island all by himself and his family. He has everything everyone needs...except noise!"

730: We’re inviting the country

"This is the craziest project we've ever done! On our first day here, we said the term 'Oh My Malta' by accident. Turns out...everybody loved that line. So much so, that we're turning this into an official country slogan! #OhMyMalta!"

"I met with the tourism authority, the President, and a billion Maltese people, and they love it! If you're in India, the US, the Philippines or anywhere in the world, you're invited. Maltese people are some of the friendliest I met."

731: Is it God or Allah?

"As far as I know, this might be the only place with 95% Christians praying to what they call Alla!"

"Alla, Allah, God...names have become so irrelevant...as long as whatever you believe in makes you a better person!"

732: He was a bad student

"It's amazing how a simple change of environment (such as a school) can take you from being a bad student to a really good one.  Gabriel from Gozo, Malta, is the embodiment of that. Thanks Gabriel!"

733: They need more children

"The people living in this town gave me such good vibes, especially the Mayor! If you're looking to relocate, go to San Lawrenz, Gozo in Malta. You might have seen the village before on Game of Thrones. It has a population of 500 and most of them are elderly."

734: My data got leaked

"Enough with the fun videos! It's time for a good debate. My data was in the recent Facebook leak. Media companies have non-stop articles on why you should delete Facebook. But even after my info got leaked, I just didn't feel angry. Is something off with me? Am I too gullible?!"

"Don't get me wrong - the leak is bad and it shouldn't happen. But the national debate has turned from focusing on Fake News and Propoganda (things that matter) to focusing on the ads Facebook serves you (things that are obvious). We are quick to agree to terms and conditions and even quicker to avoid responsibility. All the information I have on the Internet is one that I agreed to put. I have shared more than most people through these videos. I practically put my life on the Internet. And all of this was a conscious decision.
Am I being too gullible or too easy? WHAT DO YOU THINK?!"

735: Do you work hard or smart?

"Do you work hard OR smart? This is an issue I've been struggling with lately. I love putting in the hours and sweat it out just to feel like I worked hard. But many times I'm just doing mindless dumb work. I need to find out what I do smart and do it a LOT. I made this video to illustrate this point!:)"

736: Us vs them

"In your news feed, the post before and after this one will probably be about bad news. There is so much of it that good news becomes rare. That's part of the reason why we organised this event!"

"1% of Malta came together to showcase unity and positivity! It's one of the most incredible things I've seen in my life and it's an honour to have been part of it. All of this we did in one week for very little money. OH MY MALTA!!"

737: The most surprising guy

"This guy is the perfect example of how you can never judge a book by its cover. Rock on, Salvu!"

738: He almost died

"Jacob's story is heartwarming! Give it a minute and hear it out! If you ever want coffee, Jacob and his family will happily make it for you at Jacob's Brew - Pay It Forward in the beautiful country of Malta."

739: Passport for sale

"Do you wanna buy a passport?! In Malta, you can do that! But...should you be able to do that? This is purely an intellectual debate, not a political one: what do YOU think?!"

740: I take her for granted

"Do you take your partner for granted?! It's not easy to admit it, but magic is becoming normal in ours and I feel like (we feel like) it needs to be revived every few weeks. This is just my relationship with Dear Alyne. We're guessing it relates to yours!"

741: The problem with selfies

"After 10,000 selfies, here is what I think about them."

1000: My journey is over

"Our journey is over. It's been an honour showing up on your feed every day. This isn't goodbye. This is a 'see you later'. I'll be back with more videos. But not everyday and not 1 minute. For now, Chapter 1 is over. I'll miss you. I'll still be making short videos on Instagram @nasdaily if you care. And I'll be around @Nas Daily Global."
