The reservoir was found thanks to architectural plants that date back to 1938.
Despite its tiny size, Malta’s full to the brim with historical artifacts – and new ones are being discovered to this day!
The latest discovery is none other than a new underground reservoir in Zabbar, found by Council Member and history enthusiast Jorge Grech together with local reservoir conservation group Il-Gibjun and the architects from Il-Venda l-Antika.
Thanks to the extensive architectural documentation research done by Vince Peresso way back in 1938, this team managed to find the exact spot where the reservoir was located.
After descending into the reservoir to capture some stunning shots, the group is now campaigning for this architectural wonder to start being used once again.
“This is the wealth that our ancestors have left behind, and I’m sure its use is underestimated,” Jorge wrote on Facebook.
Do you think the reservoir should be restored?
