Blazing end to June! Malta & Gozo to hit a 40°C real feel this week as UV Index reaches extreme levels
Time to stock up on that sunscreen!

Summer is officially here, and it’s definitely turning up the heat! As we approach the end of June, Malta and Gozo are bracing themselves for a real taste of what the Mediterranean summer has in store – and it’s looking hot, hot, hot.

According to Maltese Islands Weather, temperatures will continue rising steadily through the week, peaking on Thursday with a high of 36°C. But don’t be fooled by the numbers – with humidity and heat index taken into account, it’s expected to feel more like a sweltering 40°C.

Thankfully, a light west-northwesterly breeze reaching up to force 4 is expected to offer some brief relief on most days, so fingers crossed for that refreshing sea air we all love during beach days!

On top of the rising heat, this week’s UV index will climb to an ‘Extreme’ level of 11 – the highest rating on the scale. That means unprotected skin and eyes can burn within minutes. It’s crucial to take extra precautions if you’re heading outdoors – here are some tips:

  • Avoid direct sun between 10AM and 4PM
  • Stick to the shade whenever possible
  • Wear sun-protective clothing, wide-brimmed hats, and UV-blocking sunglasses
  • Use broad spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen, and reapply every 1.5 hours, especially after swimming or sweating
  • Be extra careful near sand and water, which reflect UV rays and increase exposure

Whether you're out for a swim, enjoying a rooftop aperitivo, or just walking around town, don’t forget: hydration, shade, and sunscreen are your best friends this week (and in the months to come).

Stay safe, Malta – and don’t underestimate that sun!
