Before school starts: the great bucket list for kids, uni students and teachers
Make the most of what's left of your freedom in the sun!

Kristina Cassar Dowling

As the season begins to change, the sun slowly transitioning from its piping hot self to a milder more tolerable sphere of flames; Malta begins to change also. A few establishments, namely those with seating right on the water’s edge, start to pack their plastic chairs and tables and neatly stack them away for the next season. Beach clubs think of storing two thirds of their umbrellas, deckchairs and other sun protecting gear as the numbers on the island begin to decrease. Menus change for the season, the thin yet comforting sweaters come out of hiding and the gutters are cleaned in preparation of the first rainfall. That’s right folks; winter is coming… slowly, so, so, slowly, but it will be here soon. For many, this only means one thing: school’s back.

Whether you’re a kindergarten, secondary school or University student or educator; the end of September draws up two opposing feelings: excitement and apathy. A healthy combination experienced by many enrolled in the education sector; both those held victim by the laws of the island and those who trust they’ve chosen the right path for their career. On one hand you’re glad summer’s over; you’re bored of being bored, but on the other hand… school… early wake ups, packed lunches, homework, classrooms, exams… eh… roll on July 2019.

But you’ve got to face the facts; summer’s out, school’s in, and instead of filling your head with regret (for spending too much time in bed), remorse (for watching too much TV in bed) and rebellion (for acting out against a structured system), why not follow our bucket list to make the most of what’s left of your summer break?

For the kiddies

Ask your parents, guardians or super cool aunts and uncles to spend some time with you before summer’s over. Here’s your top list:

For the teachers:

You may want to take it easy, find some solitude and relax before young minds become your priority.
