Another nasty jellyfish! Scary ‘barbed wire’ jellyfish spotted in Maltese waters

Marine biologist, Alan Deidun has taken to Facebook to warn people about another stinging jellyfish called the ‘barbed wire’ jellyfish that was recently spotted in Maltese waters.

Similar to the stinging snake jellyfish, whose infestation was reported last week, the barbed wire jellyfish also forms part of the siphonophore colony and has a nasty sting.

“Luckily, these are mainly recorded from Maltese waters in spring”, Alan expressed on social media.

This means that thankfully we do not have to worry much about being stung by these kinds of frightening-looking species of jellyfish during summer.
