This Saturday, March 29th, a unique experience awaits you – the Via Sagra at the historic Fort St. Angelo, led by His Excellency, the Archbishop of Malta, Charles J. Scicluna.
Traditionally, the Via Sagra (translating to 'sacred journey' or 'sacred walk') refers to a re-enactment or spiritual journey that follows the Way of the Cross, which commemorates the final journey of Jesus Christ before his crucifixion.
This one will have an extra touch of local history, where the walls, streets, paths, and stairways of Fort St. Angelo – a true national symbol – will be transformed into the various stages of the Way of the Cross. Visitors will be able to follow the spiritual journey, while admiring the historical beauty and gravitas the fort and its surroundings provide.
Organised by the Holy Week Commission and the Parish of Birgu in celebration of the Jubilee Year of Hope, the event is a collaboration between the Archdiocese of Malta, Heritage Malta, and the Sovereign Military Order of St. John.
The event begins at 7:00 PM, and the entrance is free.
