If you’re looking for something beautiful, community-driven, and a little out of the ordinary to do this weekend, look no further than ‘Festa Fjuri’ in Iklin. Now in its 12th edition, the much-loved Flower Festival returns to Ninu Cremona Street this Saturday, 17th May, from 9am to 2pm, transforming the locality into a blooming celebration of nature, wellbeing, and local identity.

At the heart of the event is the breathtaking infiorata, a floral masterpiece created using a staggering 7,000 pots of petunias – a seasonal spring flower that’s as fragrant as it is photogenic.

More than simply an aesthetically pleasing day, Festa Fjuri aims to promote a healthy lifestyle through a strong connection with nature, and this year’s edition is brimming with activities to encourage visitors of all ages to do just that. In fact, Ninu Cremona Street will be reimagined as a ‘wellbeing street’, where guests can relax, explore, and reconnect with the environment.

In a nod to the locality’s name, the Iklin Local Council will be offering a refreshing ‘Xarba Klin’ – a rosemary-infused drink inspired by the abundance of the herb in the area. Pair it with seasonal fruit and a slice of fruit cake, and you’ve got the perfect mid-morning treat.

And here’s the best part: at the end of the event, all 7,000 flowerpots used in the infiorata will be given away for free, encouraging residents to bring some floral charm back to their homes, gardens, and balconies.

The event is held in collaboration with numerous local NGOs and environmental agencies, including Ambjent Malta, Project Green, ERA, Friends of the Earth Malta, Nature Trust Malta, and many more. Visitors can learn about their ongoing efforts and how to get involved.

A highlight of this year’s edition is the Eco Café, a discussion corner featuring talks from experts on topics ranging from pollination and ecology to aromatherapy, traditional herbs, and the Maltese honeybee. It’s a unique opportunity to learn something new, ask questions, and deepen your appreciation for the environment around us.

Making the atmosphere even brighter will be the live music by the Saint Pius X Musical Society of Ħal Lija, as well as lively street performances by Dancel Dance Studio, and a traditional folk set by Ta’ Verna Folk Band. Visual art lovers are also in for a treat, with a special corner dedicated to established and emerging artists inspired by the local landscape.

So mark your calendars, grab your camera, and bring a reusable bag – you might just be taking home some floral joy this Saturday!

Ready to smell the flowers?
