In this photo uploaded by the National Archives of Malta, one can see a sight that is definitely no longer possible today.

The photo taken all the way back in the 1950’s by photographer Ernie Miller shows a street vendor going round with his carriage to sell fresh meat such as chicken and rabbits.

The meat vendor was known by locals as ‘Salvu tal-bajd’. He used to have live chickens and rabbits in cages, and he used to kill them right there and then for those who used to buy them.

The road shown in the picture is known as Miggiani Steet and is found right behind the Midalja Mirakuluza chapel complex in Hamrun.
