It’s been 60 years since Dun Mikiel’s presbyterial ordinance, and a number of celebrations are being held in honour of him and his work by the Gozitan Diocese this month. But, before we get into those, a spotlight on the man himself...
Who was Dun Mikiel?
Dun Mikiel came from a family of 12 from Nadur in Gozo, and was the eldest of the siblings. He was ordained priest by the former Bishop of Gozo, Mons. Guzeppi Pace, and dedicated his life to priesthood and the laypeople of Gozo.

“A gem for the Gozitan clergy”
Dun Mikiel had a passion and dedication to the apostolate and prayer. He was seen as having buckets of determination - enough to give out - as well as being enthusiastic about learning through the Council Vatican II. Dun Mikiel was a friend to his peers and guided seminarists throughout their holy journey. He also had a great love for missionaries and voluntary work.

Sadly, Dun Mikiel passed away in 2004 after succumbing to illness. He was already considered a saint for his work in the community, so much so that the current Bishop of Gozo, Mons. Mario Grech, went on to start the process of beatification and canonisation, just six years after Dun Mikiel’s death.
