4 local car boot sales to try for a fun & sustainable shopping experience
They’re rising in popularity!

Caroline Curmi

There’s something about car boot sales that goes over and above a regular shopping experience. Whether its due to the fact that they remain relatively uncommon and give off a market vibe akin to those abroad or because of the freedom to browse through the offerings at one's own pace (and bag a great bargain!), a car boot sale proves a fun (and budget-friendly) outing. Here are 4 car boot sales to try out this season in Malta:

1. Birgu

This market has been there ever since we can remember and draws attention both from locals and tourists. Usually held every Sunday morning (weather permitting), this car boot sale makes for one fun weekend outing for all ages.

2. Inspire, Marsascala

This organisation hosts weekly car boot sales every Sunday between 6am and 12pm at its premises. Entrance is against a small donation for the foundation and promises plenty of exciting purchases. They also have several charity shops across the island, namely Hamrun and Marsascala, which open on working days and offer an extensive selection of second hand clothes, books, homeware and other household objects.

3. The Veg Box, Manikata

Their noble mission is to bring fresh organic produce to Maltese kitchens, and now, the team is moving slowly into other forms of sustainable economy. Based off the roaring success of their first car boot sale last weekend, the team hopes to continue organising markets every other Sunday. Follow their Facebook page for updates!

4. Verdala International School, Pembroke

This school hosts some pretty cool car boot sales throughout the year. Held in the school's own car park, its pitches are also rented out during the event, with all proceeds going towards the Verdala boosters and the school. Keep yourself updated through their Facebook group to find out the date of the next car boot sale!

Which one will you be giving a try first?

When she’s not having a quarter-life crisis, Caroline is either drawing in a café, frittering her salary on sushi or swearing at traffic in full-on Gozitan. There is also the occasional daytime drink somewhere in the equation. Or two. A creative must be allowed at least one vice.
