The Maltese language is a unique blend of many other languages combined; a reflection of the many counties that colonised it over centuries. And just like any other language that has its own verbal expressions, so does Maltese - but these ones (and there are way more!) just cannot be translated into any language…and you’ll see why.

Maltese: Taqtax qalbek
Meaning: Don’t give up
5. I come, fall, and get up from you
Maltese: Nigi naqa u nqum minnek
Meaning: I couldn’t care less about you
6. You narrowed me!
Maltese: Dejjaqtni!
Meaning: You annoyed the bejesus out of me
7. Cutting of meat
Maltese: Qtugh ta’ laham
Meaning: Sore muscles
8. Everything come so we go
Maltese: Kollox ejja ha mmorru
Meaning: Shoddy work
9. How much empty are you, say?
Maltese: Kemm int vojt, ghid?
Meaning: A stupid comment
10. With the egg turned round
Maltese: Bil-bajda mdawra
Meaning: Someone is in a bad mood
11. I swallowed a pipe
Maltese: Blajt kanna
Meaning: Something inconvenient happened
12. Mix me so I understand you
Maltese: Hawwadni ha nifhmek
Meaning: A person confused the heck out of you while explaining a situation
