Young Maltese girl slays her debut dance performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London
“It was like a dream come true,” she says.
Kenzie Galea is making Malta proud! The 12-year-old studies ballet, jazz, flamenco and escual bolera (a combination of ballet and flamenco) with local dance company Estudios de Danza, and her dance teachers and parents recently encouraged her to audition for the Birmingham Royal Ballet. And well, thank heavens she did, because this kid is amazing!

Kenzie, born in Ethiopia and adopted in Malta, was selected from among hundreds as one of eight girls who took part in The Nutcracker with Birmingham Royal Ballet at The Royal Albert Hall in London.
Kenzie travels every weekend to Birmingham for ballet lessons. “Dance is like a passion for me so even though it’s a long journey every weekend, I’m doing this for my future so I’m going to try my best,” she says.

Kenzie started taking dance lessons when she was three years old, but her mother insists her daughter started dancing before she could walk. She said that seeing her daughter perform at such a prestigious venue was surreal. “I never would have dreamt that my daughter would be on that stage. My mum and I went to see her, and we sat there and were in awe really, because it was quite surreal. I was just gobsmacked.

And the big opportunities don’t top there for the young performer. Kenzie will be attending Elmhurst Summer School in Birmingham in July, and will go on to Seville in Spain too, after having won a scholarship to specialise in Flamenco dance. #YASQUEEN!
