The central hotel continues to impress.
If there’s one thing we’ve come to expect from the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa, it’s a distinct level of service and quality food – but apart from that, there’s an undeniable style with which they welcome hotel guests and visitors, making you feel just a little bit special.

That feeling rang true a couple of weekends ago, when we had the pleasure of sampling the new Sunday lunch offering at the gorgeous Villa Corinthia, and needless to say, we were impressed. Apart from the incredible setting, a veritable feast of food was presented, showcasing the best of what the hotel’s accomplished kitchen has to offer.

After a short introduction by both the General Manager and “man behind the scenes” Chef Jonathan, we were first presented with a selection of starters from the new menu. An opportunity to sample every starter on a menu is a rare treat, so we eagerly tucked in, nodding our approval with every bite.

The stunning spread included dishes of crab and avocado salad, gin-cured salmon, asparagus with burrata, crisp fried calamari and a couple of equally attractive vegetable dishes. The artful presentation was matched by the freshness of the ingredients and the masterful way in which each was prepared – so far, so incredibly good.

Next came an interim pasta dish of ricotta tortelloni with smoked tomato fondue and olive crumbs, which served as a moreish treat between starter and main course. As Mediterranean folk, we are obviously pasta lovers, and this delectable dish went down a treat – the tomato fondue in particular was a masterclass in the beauty of simplicity.

For our mains, we were asked to make the agonising decision between a handful of dishes that called out to be tasted. After some deliberation, I selected a poached meagre with girolles mushrooms, peas and chorizo. The combination of ingredients worked a treat, and the delicate, flavourful fish was a true delight. Meanwhile, my dining companion chose a pan-seared salmon which she branded ‘delicious’. Oh, and fans of the traditional British-style Sunday lunch won’t be disappointed either – the menu offers that too, in the form of a roast Striploin with shallots and Yorkshire pudding… yum!

Still, for those with a sweet tooth – the best was yet to come. Cue an interactive dessert and ice-cream bar that would make Willy Wonka jealous. From crunchy biscuits and the cutest petit fours to a DIY waffle and pancake bar, the meal certainly ended on a sweet note, leaving us rubbing our tummies and passing our compliments to the chefs.

If you’re looking for a central Sunday lunch spot in a lush location that delivers food and service that’s a cut above, get in touch to experience it for yourself – you won’t be disappointed!
