Malta has been highlighted as one of the top destinations in Europe for retirees, thanks to its affordability and safety, according to a recent feature by Travel + Leisure website.

The article praises Malta for its picturesque beaches, charming historic towns, and vibrant expat community. As noted by Global Citizen Solutions, a visa and relocation consulting firm, Malta ranks third on the list of best European countries to retire, just behind Portugal and Spain.

Several factors contribute to Malta's appeal for retirees. The country offers an excellent healthcare system, with universal coverage for Maltese citizens and legal residents, while non-EU citizens can access affordable private healthcare.

The cost of living is relatively low, with average monthly expenses estimated between $2,600 and $3,000. Housing is diverse, though many residents live in apartments due to Malta's high population density. Valletta, St. Paul’s Bay, and Victoria in Gozo are particularly popular among American retirees for their large expat communities.

Malta's strategic central Mediterranean location has cultivated a rich cultural tapestry influenced by North African, European, and Middle Eastern traditions. This cultural diversity, combined with political stability and a predominantly English-speaking population, makes it easier for expats to adapt. The country is also noted for its safety, being considered safer than many other nations, including the United States.

With Malta’s favourable climate, robust infrastructure, and welcoming environment, Malta continues to attract retirees looking for a serene and affordable place to enjoy their golden years.
