Wied Fulija, once known for all the wrong reasons, has transformed into one of Malta’s most remarkable environmental success stories. Stretching across an impressive 91,000 square metres, the valley was used as a landfill between 1979 and 1996.

Over those 17 years, an estimated 1.85 billion kilograms of waste were deposited in the area, leaving behind severe environmental damage and a landscape far removed from the natural beauty it once held.

Today, Wied Fulija stands as a testament to what restoration and long-term planning can achieve. Thanks to extensive rehabilitation efforts carried out in recent years, the valley has been reshaped, stabilised, and returned to nature. The once-scarred terrain is now home to walking paths, greenery, and breathtaking views overlooking the coastline.
