Spring in Malta is a dynamic season marked by transition, as winter gradually gives way to the approaching summer.
During this time, the islands experience a mix of stable, pleasant days and others with sudden weather changes. Today, for starters, we were expecting a sunny day, but the weather is giving Monday blues.
This variability is largely due to the interaction between lingering cool northern air masses and warmer air flowing in from North Africa, which can create unstable conditions.
Occasionally, cut-off low pressure systems move across the region, bringing short-lived showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.
At the same time, longer daylight hours mean stronger sunshine, allowing the land to warm faster than the surrounding sea. This contrast can trigger cloud formation and brief convective activity.
The relatively cool Mediterranean Sea also contributes to the formation of sea breezes, helping moderate temperatures.
Adding to the variety, the Sirocco wind sometimes carries warm, dusty air from the Sahara, resulting in hazy skies and rising temperatures.
