The clean-ups will take across a wide range of localities.

To mark World Clean-up Day on the 20th September, a nationwide effort will see 53 clean-up days organised across Malta and Gozo. The initiative, coordinated by Local Councils with support from the Local Government Division, was recently announced.

These activities are a symbol of the daily work being carried out, but they also serve to highlight the importance of a clean environment. Residents have been urged to take part, to better appreciate ongoing efforts and to strengthen our collective responsibility towards a cleaner country.

Malta clean-ups

Several coastal local councils will go a step further by organising underwater clean-ups, targeting waste that is harder to remove but equally damaging to the marine environment. These initiatives aim to inspire greater care for Malta’s seas.

Clean-ups will take place across a wide range of localities, from Balzan, Birkirkara, and Sliema in Malta to Nadur, Xagħra, and Żebbuġ in Gozo, and others, ensuring island-wide participation.

Together, these events highlight the value of community action in safeguarding Malta’s towns, villages, and coastlines for present and future generations.

Have you ever taken part in a clean-up?
