What an honour! Valletta named one of Europe’s most underrated luxury destinations for 2025
Valletta, Malta’s elegant and sun-soaked capital, has been named one of Europe’s most underrated luxury travel destinations for 2025, according to a new study by travel experts CV Villas.
As travellers increasingly look beyond the well-trodden paths of the Alps and Lake Como, luxury is being redefined not just by lavish price tags, but by unique experiences, cultural richness, and tranquillity away from the crowds. Valletta fits this definition perfectly - offering timeless charm, baroque beauty, and authentic Mediterranean indulgence.
Ranked among the top 20 hidden gems for upscale travel, Valletta earned an ‘Underrated Luxury Score’ of 58.62/100, placing it alongside lesser-known but equally stunning destinations like Brittany in France, St Ives in the UK, and Skiathos in Greece.
CV Villas based its rankings on an analysis of online guest reviews from across Europe’s less-visited locations, tallying references to ‘luxury’ alongside star ratings and review volumes. The result is a list of destinations that offer a premium experience without the high-season chaos of more popular hotspots.
Though small in size, Valletta boasts a wealth of historical and cultural attractions, with its entire city core designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From its majestic Grand Harbour views and opulent 16th-century architecture to Michelin-starred dining and boutique stays, the capital offers an enriching getaway in which luxury blends seamlessly with authenticity.
With a 22% annual increase in searches for ‘luxury travel,’ more travellers are seeking out these hidden treasures. Valletta’s inclusion in this list confirms what many visitors already know: this capital city may be compact, but it delivers grand experiences in every sense.
